FAMILY MINISTRY DIRECTOR

POSITION SUMMARY
Munholland United Methodist Church is a growing dynamic church in the heart of Metairie Louisiana. Munholland is a mission-minded church serving a number of partner ministries around New Orleans. We are a Spirit-filled, and Gospel-centered church that is involved in impacting our city through service. We are a graying congregation who recently invested almost a million dollars in our future generation by updating and remodeling our building to draw in younger families. We are looking for experienced personnel who can add value to our team as we transition ministry areas to match our targeted growth and position us for the next season.
This position will have responsibilities for both children and youth and will be a key staff position providing leadership to a large volunteer team. The church is looking forward to hearing from candidates that can skillfully lead in the church in these two strategic growth ministry areas.
The best fit for this roll is someone who has experience and a passion for working with youth and children and who has at least 5 years’ experience working with them. Someone who can create and execute a short and long-term vision for the youth and children's ministries. They are able to direct and lead exciting dynamic and creative youth programming for Middle and High School age youth. They must be able to create and delegate fun children Sunday School curriculum series (from birth to 5th grade) and exciting VBS preparation and implementation. This director must be a strategic part of the program staff by feeling comfortable evangelizing outside of the church, creating and launching teams of highly involved volunteers. This position requires a high level of passion, energy, creativity, and proven effectiveness. The director also has a complimentary scope of administrative duties related to the planning, involvement in worship. They love to play, have an eye for aesthetics and details, and are naturally creative.
Qualifications and Position Requirements:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in teaching and or theology or a related field.
A passion for sharing the Gospel with children and families.
Experience in working with middle and senior high school age in a youth ministry setting.
Creative passion for demonstrating the gospel to children from birth to 5th grade in fun dynamic ways.
Basic administrative and organizational skills.
Strong communication skills in relating to students, parents, staff, and congregation.
Skilled in computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Propresenter.
Ability to easily utilize various forms of social media to communicate with the youth and parents.
Ability to work with youth and adults.
Responsibilities
Must demonstrate the characteristics of a passionate follower of Christ who is actively growing in their faith.
Organize and lead an effective youth program.
Oversee the volunteer team that is responsible for the children's ministry.
Recruit and train volunteer staff with diverse skills to meet the needs of the ministry areas.
Plan and implement age appropriate activities such as social outings, musicals, dance, media, small group Bible study, retreats, and community service projects.
Counsel youth on an individual basis.
Coordinate youth activities with other ministries in cooperation with staff.
Keep students and parents informed of ongoing activities and encourage parental participation.
Develop budgets and manage all funds related to events within the guidelines of the approved budget and financial policies of the church.
Participate in the evaluation and development of the youth ministry.
Preach before the general congregation as requested by the Senior Pastor.
Expectations
Attend worship services, prayer service, program staff meetings, and other special meetings.
Prepare an annual budget for the budget committee within the specified window of time.
Stay abreast of current youth ministry practices thru reading, youth leadership conferences, etc.
Coordinate the publicity for youth and children activities through the appropriate vehicles provided by the church (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, Newsletters, special mailings, TV monitor advertisement, messenger articles, bulletins, announcements, web page, etc.)
Provide for the security and well-being of all participants in the children and youth ministry.
